Philanthropy & the Common Good
Taught by Jonathan Hannah
Department of the Hesburgh Program in Public Service, Political Science, Constitutional Studies
Jonathan Hannah serves as an Assistant Director for Strategic Partnerships with the Notre Dame Center for Ethics & Culture. He has taught business communication courses, and teaches an undergraduate political science experiential learning course on Philanthropy & the Common Good in Notre Dame’s College of Arts & Letters. Jonathan holds a B.A. in Political Science from Saint Xavier University, an M.Sc. in Management from Lewis University, a J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy, and an LL.M. from the University of Notre Dame. His writing on philanthropy has appeared in Philanthropy Daily, Real Clear Policy, Philanthropy.org, and Public Discourse. He resides just outside of South Bend, Indiana with his wife and son. In his spare time he enjoys exploring America’s National Parks.

- Site visit teams are expected to conduct one site visit with a local nonprofit in one of 7 nearby counties. All nonprofits visited by site visit teams will then be invited to submit a proposal for funding.
- Throughout the course of the semester, the Board has 3 formal board meetings
- Board officers for Board of Directors will be selected at random by prof
- All students are members with equal voting power
- Restrictions
- Minimum grant amount $5k, max amount $25k
- Orgs in Michiana area
- Students are expected to volunteer at a local nonprofit organization for a few hours and write a reflection paper about it.
