I pledge to give 5-10% of my salary to organizations that engage in causes I am passionate about, including immigration, domestic violence/sexual exploitation, access to arts, my church, and legal equity. These causes may shift as my experiences and beliefs also shift. I am choosing to place a window of percentage versus a set number as I want my generosity to be fluid; I want to give freely and not give formulaically or just to check giving off my to-do list. In order to combat the potential overcorrection of then not giving at all or as bountifully, I commit to setting aside 10% of my paycheck in a separate account regardless of how much I end up giving from that 10%. That way, even if I do not give the full 10% one year, that money will be invested in a HYSA solely for the purposes of giving and then, when convicted to give more another year or to another cause, the leftover funds will be utilized. I also commit to spending at least ten hours of research each year on vetting organizations, under the assumption that thorough research will make me more aware of need and allow my money to be used most effectively. Additionally, as a future law student, I commit in law school to fifty hours of pro-bono work over the course of three years, with the expectation of superseding that. Once I am an attorney, I will reevaluate the number of hours I engage in pro-bono work as the vitality of this work depends on the specific realm of law I enter into, the nature of my job, and the need in my area.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact info@thephilanthropylab.org

After graduation, I will commit at least 10% of my free time to volunteer work and donate a minimum of 5% of my income to causes I care aboutâparticularly those supporting education, child literacy, and human services for youth. I believe real change starts with children, and I plan to partner with NPOs that serve their health and development. Finally, Iâll also stay open to helping individuals when the need arises.

I pledge to intentionally donate 5% of my salary to nonprofit organizations. I plan to put in the time to diligently study nonprofits that I am interested in donating to, talk with those who work at those organizations, and even volunteer with those nonprofits to assess where and what my donation could do. In the future, not only do I pledge to engage in philanthropy but I pledge to spread the knowledge regarding the importance and impact of meaningful giving acts.

After graduation, my goal is to donate 10% of my salary as tithes to help the people in my community. Additionally, my bigger goal is to donate my time in a manner that is fruitful and supports those around me. Currently, I serve in Kids Ministry at my church and hope to continue donating my time in this way after I graduate. Additionally, I hope to encourage the people around me in the importance of giving both for advancement of the community and personal development.

I aim to thoughtfully and consistently give 5% of my annual salary to nonprofit organizations whose missions align with my values. My giving will be intentional, informed, and sustainedâsupporting causes that promote equity, access to education, environmental sustainability, and community well-being. I commit to researching the organizations I support to ensure they are impactful, transparent, and aligned with long-term systemic change.

I pledge to give 10% of my income on a monthly basis, beginning after my first paycheck and creating a separate bank account for those funds. I will give to my local church that I attend as well as nonprofit organizations that I am passionate about. Additionally, I want to volunteer 5 hours a month. I plan to do this by volunteering to work in the nursery/kids ministry at my church.
