When I have a steady job that pays at least $40,000/year, I pledge to donate 5-10% of my disposable income each month to causes that are important to me.

My passion has always and will always be to make a difference in the world. I believe in doing the right thing whether that be to pick up trash on the street or donate my time to volunteering at the Special Olympics. I love to help others. I stand up for what is right, equal opportunity. I believe in working together for the greater good through community civic engagement. Volunteering is a passion of mine, to help and fight for equality. It is time for us to stand together and help better the world. I pledge to donate my time, volunteer at least once every other week, sometimes more than once a week. I believe donating my time and hard work is just as valuable as money if not more at times. Once I acquire my dream job and am financially stable I will try to donate a certain percentage depending on what life has in store. Hopefully, I will be able to donate to philanthropies that need the financial support and are truly making a difference. My time and sweat equity though will always be at the forefront of my philanthropy work.

My goal is to provide each patient with quality vision and appreciate people from all walks of life. I pledge to dedicate immense money and time to making people’s life easier, better, and healthier than before. In addition to becoming an optometrist, I hope to take on a role in my city council to give underprivileged individuals the voice they deserve.

I pledge upon after graduating to participate in community service at least twice a month. I also pledge, upon paying off all my school loans that I will create scholarships for undergraduate students. Growing up in a single parent household we didn’t have much monetary funds, so me and my family of four; my mother and myself as well as my two younger sisters, have been able to sustain ourselves because of philanthropy groups as well as government aid. Ever since then I knew that when I became a successful person that I would donate my money to help others who are struggling as I did when I was a child. I also wished to create scholarships for students who grew up in single parent households. Thanks to people who donated their money to philanthropy groups such as food banks and housing assistance, me and my family have been able to sustain ourselves and that is why it is my life’s mission that I one day too can donate my money and impact the lives of others as it has been done to mine.

I pledge to dedicate my life to provide opportunity, power and rights to the people who are deprived of it, redress wrongs committed against them, and to reform social, political and legal systems that work against them. I pledge to dedicate my present and my future to creating positive change in the community with the resources that are available to me. While these resources might involve money, they will also include my time, energy, knowledge, and labor. I pledge to never stop learning beyond my formal education and to be receptive to the lessons taught by the community around me. I pledge to try to understand the perspectives of others and use what I have learned to create innovative and effective mechanisms of change. I pledge to use my hands to build the foundations and make those ideas come to life. I pledge to use money effectively to keep those mechanisms and the community moving forward.

As a UCI student enrolled in this philanthropy class and engaged within the community, I promise to uphold the values of doing whatever possible to help those in need, now and in the future. I will never degrade or judge those who are less educated, who come from a financially challenged family, and/or those who look different from me. I will be mindful and compassionate in understanding the suffering around me, and take into consideration of the ideology of common humanity. I pledge to volunteer at least 4 times a month to help local and/or worldwide organizations. Once I have a secure job, I promise to continue my child sponsorship with non-profit organizations, and sponsor more children to supplement my monthly contributions. The exact amount of my monetary contributions will fluctuate depending on my prospective job and income. However, if I am fortunate to earn a higher income, I will increase the amount of giving, as well as the time spent volunteering, to keep in mind the many children and families that struggle to live with way less than what I have.
