I pledge to work to maximize my service to my community through my time, talent, and treasure. As I begin my professional career I want to purposely set aside time to serve in my community outside of my field of work, and hopefully with an organization I am most passionate about to help them serve their mission (board member, volunteer, etc.). I want to also put an emphasis within my work of using my talents professionally to advance worthy causes within my friends and family, and also take up work that intentionally serves my community (pro-bono work, etc.). Finally, I want to donate as much of my treasure/ money as possible with a goal of at least 5% of my income. I want this percentage to grow as my income increases during my career, and also for my giving to be year round but increase in quantity during holiday seasons (make a point to give to others more than you receive during the holidays).
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact [email protected]
Step 1
Have a healthy and vigorous dialogue in your class on the general idea of having a personal Giving Goal as a college student.
Step 2
Set a Giving Goal concerning your future giving plans.
Step 3
Share a brief statement of your Giving Goals on The Philanthropy Lab’s portal as a way to inspire others to do the same. You may post anonymously to the public if you wish.
Step 4
Share your permanent email address and phone number with The Philanthropy Lab, for the sole purpose of the reminder mechanism, so we can remind you of your goal in 5 year increments for 20 years into the future.

I pledge to willingly donate my time, money, attention, and skills to the nonprofits of which I am passionate about. I promise to be an advocate for the hurting, the orphaned, the sick, and the voiceless within my communities. I commit to serving at least once a month and giving a portion of my annual income each month to my church and other nonprofit organizations of my choosing. I pray that in all I do, I may be the hands and feet of Christ, serving all around me with love and compassion.

I pledge to utilize the privilege of my God-given gifts to maximize the well-being of my community. At the base, this consists of gifting 5% of my annual income to causes I am impassioned by and actively choosing to dedicate time towards the issues that are plaguing my community. I will make myself available as a resource and source of counsel for those that are struggling. I will revisit this purpose at a minimum every 5 years to evaluate my adherence and its effectiveness. I will use my role in the corporate environment to allocate my companies resources towards their best use in the community and promote corporate social responsibility from a holistic perspective. Starting my career at PwC, I will seek a potential pro-bono assignment or actively volunteer my resources as a consultant to non-profits.

I pledge to use my talents, time, and resources to support organizations that work tirelessly to lift up the people of my community and of communities around the world. I pledge to contribute a growing percentage of my income and volunteer 30 days/year of my time to organizations that help fight for those in need. I pledge to support organizations that are fighting to provide access to affordable healthcare and affordable higher education. I pledge to live a generous life, searching every day for little ways I can personally support the people of my community and grow my capacity to lift up my neighbors.

I pledge to take what I’ve learned in this course to continue shaping my approach to lifelong giving. I desire to live a life characterized by generosity and to make sacrifices for the betterment of others. I want to be an informed giver by doing due diligence and making thoughtful, prayerful decisions with the resources that have been gifted to me to give away. I want to steward my resources, gifts, and talents well and be an advocate for the hurting. Once I begin earning a salary, I commit to giving a percentage of my income to my local church as well as to nonprofits that are impacting communities in ways that I am passionate about.

I pledge to share my blessings to the missions that are most near and dear to my heart. Helping to uphold the dignity of the human person and spreading hope are the missions I strive to support for the rest of my life. I plan on giving a part of my income to organizations with these missions and increasing that percentage as time goes on. I commit to being a voice for the voiceless, a doer for those who are unable to do, and a giver to those in need. I also commit to getting my own communities more involved in these efforts as well. All in all, I desire nothing more than to be a witness of Christ’s love and generosity.
