I pledge to donate at least 5% of my income to charity or philanthropy.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact [email protected]

One special thing that I’d like to incorporate into my giving goal is a theme of giving throughout the year. I hope to give back to local charities in my community and some more nationally recognized charities that have an emphasis on the theme and or problem area that I chose to focus on for that year. I think this will allow me to deepen my knowledge of many different societal issues along will helping many different groups of people.

I wish to become someone who examines and takes part in multiple charitable efforts outside of my personal and professional life. Yearly, I would like to list different organizations or volunteering opportunities that I would like to donate my resources. I would also like to connect with other philanthropists to pick up on strategies for choosing different causes how they (the donors) can vet where their resources are going and how to balance that with their other responsibilities.

I hope to continue charitable contributions through out my lifetime. I will aim to donate a set portion of my annual income to charitable causes and organizations that align with my values and priorities. As my income grows over time, I hope to increase the amount of money I can set aside for charitable giving. Even if my financial situation makes this goal difficult, I hope to contribute in other ways, like volunteering. I hope to develop relationships with different organizations that are doing great work in the community and want to hold myself accountable to contribute to the change they are creating.

Throughout this course, I have gained valuable insights into the world of philanthropy and how to make a positive impact with charitable giving. My original donation to Seedling, an organization that provides school-based mentoring to children of incarcerated parents, reflected my belief in the importance of supporting vulnerable youth and helping to break cycles of intergenerational poverty and incarceration. This class has broadened my perspective on how to think more strategically about philanthropy. I’ve learned to research organizations to assess their track record, leadership, financial health, and demonstrated impact. I now have a better understanding of concepts like effective altruism, which involves using evidence and reasoning to determine effective ways to benefit others. I’ve also been exposed to the merits of different cause areas, from global health and poverty to animal welfare and existential risk reduction. Going forward, my approach to philanthropy will be more thoughtful and impact-focused. While I still believe in the mission of Seedling and may continue supporting their work, I plan to diversify my giving to target areas where I believe my donations can have a significant impact. Based on my research and our class discussions, I am interested in the potential of direct cash transfers as a way to alleviate global poverty. I also see value in supporting scientific research and innovation to address major challenges facing humanity. Moreover, this course has emphasized the importance of considering how to maximize the impact of my giving over the course of my life. I am thinking about pledging a portion of my future income to effective charities. I also plan to continue learning about philanthropy, stay engaged with this community, and encourage others to think critically about their own giving. With the knowledge and perspective I’ve gained through this course, I feel better prepared to use philanthropy as a tool for creating positive change.

I would like to give the money to the most passionate, feasible and sustainable non-profit organizations or programs aiming at undermining the school-to-prison pipeline in Philadelphia.
