Solo Por Hoy, Inc.

Solo por Hoy, Inc. is a non-profit organization established in 2009, with the mission to assist families in crisis situations including, but not limited to, general services to impoverished, homeless, substance abuse, mental health and HIV families. Their vision is for every family to achieve a life of dignity, self-sufficiency and emotional stability.

Its services are targeted to the most vulnerable families on the Island, including the provision of housing vouchers, vulnerability assessments for placement in permanent housing and workshops to individuals, organizations and municipalities to strengthen the knowledge of housing rights. Since 2017 the organization serves as a practice center for universities fostering sensitivity and knowledge of future professionals regarding the needs of vulnerable populations.

The funds received from Sagrado’s Philanthropy Lab will support the development and implementation of an Urban Community Collaborative Center (colaboratorio) to benefit persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness; and the organizations that serve them. Among other services, the center will have a digital library where people who are homeless and at risk of homelessness can come and do their own errands, create their accounts, check their emails, connect with support networks and the services of a variety of non-profit organizations, apply for benefits, complete job applications or other activities that promote the empowerment, autonomy and holistic stability of each of the families served. The colaboratorio will also be a space to promote the integration of efforts of nonprofit organizations that will be available for meetings, conferences, workshops, conversations, seminars, presentations and other events to promote diversity, inspire creativity, enhance trust, encourage engagement and interaction of the population facing homelessness. In addition, it will be part of the revitalization of the urban area of Rio Piedras, a deteriorated area with high levels of vulnerability in the capital city.
