The idea of selflessness was established in my life from a young age. As the child of Chinese immigrants who came to America with big dreams and small pockets, I watched my parents give to friends, family, and their community even when it seemed like they had nothing else left to give. Growing up, I took after them and did my part by donating my time to helping community organizations, providing meals to the homeless, and volunteering at local hospitals. I am very fortunate to be in the position that I am today and to have experiences that have shaped me as an individual. Now, as a financially stable young adult, I’m in a position to come full circle and give back to the community that has allowed me to come this far. For this reason, I pledge to donate 5% of my current income and gradually increase this number as I grow in wealth in the future. I hope to eventually be able to donate at least 50% of my net worth. I also pledge to volunteer at least 50 hours a year towards charitable causes. I believe the most important indication of our future success is the youth of today. For this reason, I plan on focusing on youth empowerment organizations that serve children in underprivileged neighborhoods. By contributing to programs that improve school districts and teachers, create opportunities for children to engage in STEM learning, and provide mentors for young children, I believe today’s youth will be able to grow up more capable than ever. While this cause is one of the most important to me, I also plan on allocating funds to other non-profit organizations that support other causes important to me and my community. Through these contributions, I hope to continue to help improve the lives of others for many years to come and I am honored and privileged to join the Giving Pledge.

I salute the Giving Pledge movement and am proud to be part of its’ declaration to commit to giving back to communities and organizations that require need to fulfill their mission statements of helping and serving for the progress and benefit of the common good. I believe in the power of service and I pledge to spend my life volunteering, helping out my community as much as I can and passing on these positive values onto younger generations. I pledge to give both my money and my time to others, today and every day. As my wealth increases, I intend to increase the percentage that I give as well.

I pledge to work with advocacy agencies that work towards changing local and national policies, so that they reflect inclusive practices and promote equality for individuals with disabilities. I pledge to donate at least 5-10 hours of my time a month working for a cause I feel passionately about. I also pledge that once I have an established career and steady income, I pledge to give at least 30% of my annual earning to worthy philanthropic agencies

I pledge to give my time volunteering at least once every two weeks throughout college. Once I graduate, I would like to continue volunteering my time for organizations I am passionate about. When I have a steady income, I will donate 10% of my finances during my lifetime and upon my death I plan to donate 20% of my money to non-profits.
