My mission for my future giving is to donate to charities that provide a diverse range of services to underserved groups free of charge. Underserved groups will include individuals that are low income, homeless, undereducated, or disabled. I define services broadly to include legal advocacy, preventative, residential, vocational and therapeutic services. This mission is guided by my values of inclusion, diversity, and equitability. Over the next five years, I plant to give a tithe, 10% of my post-tax income. As my income grows as I move up through my career, I hope to increase this amount. I plan to revise my giving goals periodically every two to three years. Each time I advance in my career or move locations will also be an opportune time for revision and reflection. As there are changes in my personal life and as the political and social climate shifts I anticipate that my mission will change and grow over time.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact [email protected]

My giving goal is to have philanthropy infiltrate every aspect of my life. I believe it should be a lifestyle, not a percentage or a threshold. I want to donate my time and money to the disabled, especially the mentally ill, because I have a personal connection to their struggle.

My five-year giving goal is simple: to give to causes I care about, in whatever capacity—financial or voluntary—I am able

I’m particularly motivated by values of equality, opportunity, and integration. Not only do I seek to make these values the basis of how I approach people and decisions in my everyday life, I also want to give time and money to organizations incorporating these values. For example, programs that 1) offer mentorship and educational opportunities for unprivileged youth, 2) equip the poor with tools to secure their own income, and 3) identify opportunities where small investments have large humanitarian impact. In addition, my goal is to work for an organization that promotes these values—in doing so I hope that every dollar I make is a diploma of having made a positive impact on the world.

I’m beyond grateful that my parents instilled a sense of responsibility within me from as far back as I can remember. Starting on my tenth birthday, I realized it was my life’s mission to try and give others somewhat of the same opportunities and blessings I have been given throughout my life. Whether these be monetary donations or acts of kindness, I try and will forever attempt to share my resources with others. Human rights is my passion. I believe in equal access to basic necessities, such as food, water and shelter, as well as intangible needs: education, freedom and literacy. As a future lawyer, I hope not only to use my privilege and knowledge to uphold the law in the realm of human rights, but also disperse my wealth—even if it is not as much as my colleagues will make—among those who need it most. My philosophy is and always will be that if I can impact at least one person, if I can change at least one person’s quality of life, I will have made a difference in society. Keeping with that dogma, I hope to leave a lasting effect on at least one person throughout my life by means of giving. I have already made continuous donations to organizations helping to improve the lives of women, children and families. If able, I hope to continue giving to these causes, and I hope to further my philanthropic endeavors by giving to other causes supporting issues surrounding the reformation of our criminal justice system. My passion is helping our weakest links, and I thoroughly believe that changing this flaw in society will, in turn, help many who are left to the side. I personally cannot imagine my life without the aspect of giving back. Philanthropy is something I do not question; I just do it because I know it is the right way to live, and it is how I feel connected to society. I tend to care more about others than myself; therefore, the act of philanthropy will not simply fade away as I get older; I will not lose interest in helping those who cannot help themselves. I commit to practicing philanthropic acts throughout the rest of my life. I will give monetary support if the means are available, and I will always give my time no matter the financial situation. I support the Giving Pledge movement. All people capable of giving should commit their lives to helping others. Too many people in our world need help and support that—mainly due to the luck of the draw—these people and families cannot receive anywhere else. I will not hesitate just because I am currently a college student; I pledge to share my resources with those who need them most, as well as give my time and energy to those who need an extra hand in life in order to make it to tomorrow.

I pledge to dedicate my professional life to work towards creating a global environment in which every child has access to efficient resources. In particular, I pledge to defend the rights of girls and other vulnerable individuals to have equal access to such resources and the freedom to pursue their goals and dreams. In addition, I pledge 5% of my future annual income to causes that do not relate directly to what I will dedicate myself professionally. Most likely, I will use these donations to assist small grassroots organizations that work in environmental causes.
