The three values that are most important to me are my faith, family, and compassion for others. These values are carried throughout my life, and ultimately will affect the way in which I aim to give to others. For example, issue areas and concerns that weigh heavy on my heart include inclusion for those with intellectual disabilities because I have an older sister with Down Syndrome. Additionally, encouraging and protecting children through the love of Jesus is a cause I feel passionate about through both the way I was raised and my personal walk with Christian faith. With these values and areas of interest in mind, I hope to pledge a steady percentage of my earnings, no matter how little or how much I may end up making, to nonprofits that support these causes. Not only this, but I want to give up my time to tangibly serve these communities and more around me. My time in this class has continued to show me just how rewarding it is to give back, and I hope to prioritize philanthropy throughout the rest of my professional and personal life.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact info@thephilanthropylab.org
Step 1

Set a Giving Goal concerning your future giving plans.
Step 3
Share a brief statement of your Giving Goals on The Philanthropy Lab’s portal as a way to inspire others to do the same. You may post anonymously to the public if you wish.
Step 4
Share your permanent email address and phone number with The Philanthropy Lab, for the sole purpose of the reminder mechanism, so we can remind you of your goal in 5 year increments for 20 years into the future.

I want to give when I have plenty and give when I don’t have a lot. You don’t actually need that much money to live. I want to give 10% of my salary away to those who need it more than me. Trust that the Lord will take care of you.

My giving goal is to give at least 10% to my church of all of my income, but on top of that I would love to evaluate how much more I can give to local nonprofits that I am passionate about. I would specifically love to give 5% to organizations that are helping the disability community. Ultimately I just want to hold my income with open hands to being able to give what I can!

For my future in philanthropy, I want to educate myself further and better understand the nonprofit sector and its impact on marginalized groups. Once I do this, I want to effectively spread more awareness and understanding about nonprofits, and I want to help increase community engagement so that nonprofits can better be supported and more accessible. In terms of my own engagement, I am interested in supporting human rights and expanding access to essential needs and services, and I hope to be able to eventually donate 5-10% of my yearly salary. I also hope to be able to volunteer on a routine basis. Lastly, I want to eventually be able to offer any knowledge or perspective that may be useful to nonprofits and the communities that they serve. Through these specific goals, I hope that a compounding positive impact can be made, and I also hope that it will eventually inspire others to enact their own plans to help.

I hope to give about 10% of my annual salary to philanthropic causes. This could be split between church, education, health, etc. I also want to give my knowledge and time to a nonprofit I care deeply about whenever I am available.

Following graduation, I aim to keep philanthropy top of mind. I hope to not only give through monetary donations, but also through volunteering. One goal I have is to become involved in a nonprofit in the city I live and work to stay connected to the community. I hope to give to this nonprofit through volunteer work monthly. My second goal is to give some of my earnings to nonprofits starting small and working up to 7-8% of my salary around the 5 year mark. I hope to continue increasing my donations as I grow my own wealth as well. More than anything, I hope to be as intentional as possible with the places I choose to give my money.
