My Giving Goal is to consistently provide my time, talents, and treasures in a methodical fashion, that being a consistent and planned way. While I certainly hope that my future vocation provides me the means to be able to donate money more prolifically, I hope to be able to take my knowledge from this course to still be able to donate a certain amount of my income to non-profit ideals. Regardless, I hope to continue my work as a volunteer with causes that matter to me, and now with the knowledge to find nonprofits that are efficient and effective as well.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact info@thephilanthropylab.org

After graduating from TCU, I will be attending law school with the long-term goal of working for a nonprofit organization. I am passionate about using the law as a tool to create meaningful change and improve the lives of individuals in my community. My hope is to dedicate my career to public interest work, advocating for those who are often overlooked or underserved. Beyond my professional aspirations, I am committed to supporting local nonprofits in both financial and personal ways. I plan to contribute at least 5% of my income to organizations that align with the values and causes I care deeply about. Additionally, I intend to volunteer my time whenever possible, continuing to serve and stay connected to the community I aim to uplift through my work.

Moving forward from this course, it is my goal to find more intentional ways in which to give my time, talent, treasure, and any additional resources I have available to nonprofit organizations with whom I share the same values and ideals, working towards missions to better communities through the promotion of human welfare and enrichment. As I transition into professional life, I plan to make conscious donations of my time and energy to assist these organizations in their service, through methods such as grant writing, volunteer work, etc., while finding ways to contribute monetarily as much as possible. Once I am in a position of greater financial stability, I pledge to give a minimum of 5% of my income, increasing that percentage as my own wealth increases, while still continuing to give my time, for I believe that is just as valuable, if not more. It is my goal to never become passive in my acts of giving, but to stay active and engaged in the work being done by the nonprofit organizations I choose to support. Through my acts of giving and service, I will strive to exemplify the very foundation of philanthropy: giving for the betterment of humankind and human flourishing.

After I finish college and medical school and find myself in a stable financial position, I pledge to set aside 10% of my post-tax income into a separate account dedicated to giving. Every four to six months, Iâll revisit this account and make thoughtful donations to organizations focused on causes Iâm passionate about, such as public health, HIV prevention, substance use recovery, and healthcare access for under-served communities. Even while Iâm still in school, I plan to volunteer consistently. My goal is to give my time at least twice a month, focusing on free clinics, community health programs, and initiatives that provide care and resources to Spanish-speaking patients. Finally, I pledge to pass on the insights and experiences I gain from this class to motivate others to give with intention and compassion, just as I am committed to doing.

I pledge to donate my time at least twice a month throughout my college career to educational youth-development nonprofit organizations within the Bryan College Station community. One of the philanthropic causes that has touched my life the most personally is education. As a student, I have experienced the power of educational experiences and the way they have the potential to shape your passions and the path you choose to embark on. However, the experiences I witnessed were only made possible by the generosity of others, making this cause one that my heart yearns to support. Additionally, from the perspective of the daughter of a teacher and single-mother, I can attest to the remarkable amount of care and dedication that teachers pour into their students day after day with so little support from administrators, sometimes taking out of their own pockets to provide not only the educational resources, but basic necessities for students in need. Although I may not have the financial resources to donate today, what I do have to give is part of myself. Someday, my experience in the classroom will flourish into generosity that I can share in other ways, but at my core, I want to be able to make a difference in the lives of others.

Giving is a mindset that is not based on the amount of money in the bank. I aspire to always give, no matter my income.
