5-Year Goal: In the first five years after graduation, I aim to consistently give 6–10% of my income to causes I deeply believe in, especially education access for underprivileged children, mentorship and advancement opportunities for girls and women, support for survivors of sexual assault and sex trafficking, and initiatives that restore human dignity in the face of poverty and homelessness. I also want to remain actively involved through volunteering and direct service so that I stay close to the communities I support. 10-Year Goal: Within ten years, my goal is to increase my giving to 10%+ of my income and serve on at least one nonprofit board aligned with my values. I hope to use my professional background in finance and investing to help organizations and social entrepreneurs grow sustainably, while also encouraging peers and close communities to become more engaged in generosity and service. 20-Year Goal: Over the long term, I want giving to become a lasting part of my legacy. My goal is to continue giving 10%+ of my income, dedicate meaningful time to board leadership and boots-on-the-ground service, and eventually create a legacy giving vehicle such as a foundation or donor-advised fund. I hope to be known as someone who invested in people, brought others into generosity, and remained deeply committed to the causes and communities I believe in.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact [email protected]

My giving goal is to begin contributing consistently to a nonprofit once I begin my full time career. Until then, my goal is to contribute my time to one of the organizations we researched over the semester.

This class has been transformational in how I view the nature of giving and putting philanthroy in action. Moving forward, I would love to dedicate my time to serving local nonprofits in where I land post-grad. I would also love to dedicate 7% of my salary in my early career and steadily increase that percentage as I further my career. I would also love to instill the heart of giving in those around me and my future family.

I expect my giving goal to grow and transform as I move throughout my life and career. As I will likely attend graduate school, I will focus on giving my time for the first few years post-grad. I am particularly passionate about organizations that support and protect those who are most vulnerable in our community, including children, the elderly, individuals with special needs, and those experiencing homelessness. To start, I will dedicate at least 5 hours per month to volunteering with organizations that reflect my values and serve these populations. This service will not only directly benefit the organizations I work with, but also allow me to become more involved with my community and better informed about the challenges facing vulnerable populations. Once I begin my career, I plan to expand my commitment by donating 5% of my annual salary to the same or similar organizations I have volunteered with. To hold myself accountable, I will open a separate account specifically for charitable giving and contribute to it monthly. While these goals may seem modest, it is important to me that they are both realistic and sustainable. Over time, I will likely increase both my volunteer involvement and financial contributions as my skills and resources grow.

My goal is to commit to giving 3–5% of annual income as a consistent baseline, remaining closer to 3% in standard years and moving toward 5% in stronger income periods. Treat giving as a deliberate allocation that grows alongside income without becoming reactive or inconsistent, and direct 70–80% of contributions toward a focused group of high-impact organizations while reserving 20–30% for personally meaningful causes. Emphasize consistency and intentionality so giving remains integrated with long-term financial growth rather than competing with it, and commit to spending at least 10 hours per year researching and vetting organizations, focusing on transparency, measurable outcomes, and operational efficiency before allocating capital.

My giving goal for the future is to give at least 10% of my income away to those in need, starting with my first paycheck after leaving graduation.
