Once I graduate, I pledge to donate to organizations such as POINT back home in Honduras that promote the education, feeding programs, and health for kids that live in adverse environments and communities of low resources. I will start by sponsoring one kid through this 8 year program and grow the amount of kids I sponsor as the years go by.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact [email protected]
Step 1
Have a healthy and vigorous dialogue in your class on the general idea of having a personal Giving Goal as a college student.
Step 2
Set a Giving Goal concerning your future giving plans.
Step 3
Share a brief statement of your Giving Goals on The Philanthropy Lab’s portal as a way to inspire others to do the same. You may post anonymously to the public if you wish.
Step 4
Share your permanent email address and phone number with The Philanthropy Lab, for the sole purpose of the reminder mechanism, so we can remind you of your goal in 5 year increments for 20 years into the future.

Once I graduate I pledge to continue devoting my time and compassion to nonprofits that share my values. On top of donating my time I also pledge to set aside a few nonprofits in which I chose to donate to their yearly fundraisers. The amount I chose to donate will depend on my income, but regardless of income I will always donate my time, patience, and friendship towards others. A big passion of mine is helping children and adults with special needs and I pledge to continue that.

I will commit to give at least 10% of my monthly income or allowance going forward to churches or nonprofit organizations. Hopefully this percentage can increase as I get a larger income. I also want to commit to giving my time in volunteer hours to faith based nonprofit organizations. I plan to volunteer at least 20 hours a month.

I want to commit, starting now, to give at least 10% of my annual income or at least 10% of my month allowance to either faith-based non-profits or christian ministries/churches. I want to create this habitat as a sophomore in college and seek to educate myself and serve with these non-profits.

I wanna volunteer at minimum 40 hours per to volunteer with a variety of organizations. I wanna do a progressive donating system where ever 5 years for the first 25 years. I’ll give an additional 5% of my income every five years until I reach 25% of income. I also hope to lend my expertise, in my work life, to a non profit in the future.

I see giving as more than just giving physical money. By all means, that’s great, but I see it on a much more broad spectrum. I see giving as something as simple as smiling at a stranger to enlighten their day. Or something like giving someone your full attention and helping navigate a problem in their lives. I see my purpose as brightening people’s day, and the great thing about that is I can do that in many different ways. More specifically, I want to open a coffee shop named Luke’s or D’Alessandro’s. I see coffee shops as a very energetic, community based space where people can go to catch up with friends, have meetings, do work while enjoying coffee (something everyone loves and is addicted to) and good food. I want to have a kitchen making substantial tasty food and have live music. I also want to have it transition into somewhere people can come to drink and have dinner in a good atmosphere at night. I really like coffee shops because they also have a unique presence within the community and can do so much in the philanthropy sector. I could host events for all the customers to come and enjoy each others presence while doing good for the community. I’m still a freshman and have a long way to go in terms of logistics of said coffee shop, but this class is the sole driving force of directing me on my path of what I want to do. I’ve always had the philanthropy characteristic, and it wasn’t until taking this class with Mr. Gammenthaler that I realized what I could do in this world. It really opened my eyes to something exciting and something that motivates me to see the good in things and impact my peers. I care more for impacting people and making them happy and smile than driving around a fast car or having these flashy materialistic things and this class showed me you can do that. I get so much satisfaction from helping people and “”people pleasing”” and I’m really excited about my future. With that being said, I don’t have a specific giving goal. I hope to just brighten someone’s day every chance I get and hopefully find a way to do that on a much larger scale.
