I pledge to give a percentage (3-5% the first year) of my income annually. Each year I want to evaluate my giving capacity and intentions to adjust to make the habit more center in my life. I will work in year one to establish my passion and direction in giving. I want to grow my giving 1-2% per year up to 10% and reevaluate my growth goal once we reach this. If monetary donation is infeasible , I pledge to give time and talent through service, board roles, or other avenues to give to non-profits. I will give time towards our growth goals in the equivalent of that money in my time.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact [email protected]
Step 1
Have a healthy and vigorous dialogue in your class on the general idea of having a personal Giving Goal as a college student.
Step 2
Set a Giving Goal concerning your future giving plans.
Step 3
Share a brief statement of your Giving Goals on The Philanthropy Lab’s portal as a way to inspire others to do the same. You may post anonymously to the public if you wish.
Step 4
Share your permanent email address and phone number with The Philanthropy Lab, for the sole purpose of the reminder mechanism, so we can remind you of your goal in 5 year increments for 20 years into the future.

I pledge to donate 5% of my annual salary towards causes supporting people with disabilities, conservation, and first responders. I will evaluate my giving annually at the end of the year to determine whether or not I have the potential to donate additional money in the next year. If I am not able to meet my 5% goal or increase my giving in the next year, I will instead donate my time in the amount that I feels matches what the monetary donation would have been.

I pledge to donate 5% of my annual income, with the goal to increase to 10%, to local and international organizations. This will be reevaluated every year with variations due to big life changes. I will research and educate myself in non-profits dealing with children, education, mental health, and poverty to solidify I am giving in the most beneficial and impactful way. I will work to gain personal relationships within organizations I’m passionate about to grow my network inside the philanthropic community. With this, I will obtain a mentor to help hold myself accountable during my giving journey.

I am dedicated to the mission of serving the less fortunate as well as those who sacrifice their own safety for the safety of others. Financially, I pledge to pool 5% of my yearly income into a separate bank account to be evaluated at the end of the year (including any bonuses). I will either give the saved money immediately or continue to save into the next year in order to make a substantial donation. With regards to giving time, I also pledge to consistently volunteer 5 hours per month. I will also look to engage my community in similar goals and practices to compound my impact. Every 5 years, I will re-evaluate my giving goal, percentage donated, time volunteered, and overall contributions

First and foremost, I pledge to give eagerly and intentionally. I will give with both time and money to organizations that foster tangible impacts, both in my own community and abroad. I will invest in my passions, as this is what generates more love and capacity for giving. Financially, it is my goal to pledge 5-15% of my income to these organizations; physically, it is my goal to volunteer at least once per month. Each year, I will evaluate my giving in order to ensure that it is generating positive outcomes.

After graduation, my giving goal is to give at least 10% of my future income to effective nonprofits and religious organizations in my local community and to create a plan in which I serve at least 3 hours volunteering at a local nonprofit organization each month.
