I pledge to give 8-10% of my salary, post-tax, at the end of the year, once I am financially stable, to deserving causes. This 10% will be placed into a bank account where I can pool from in order to donate to different causes each year that pull at my heartstrings. I would like to find 4 or 5 organizations where I can donate some substantial amounts to varying causes. I also pledge to donate 10-12 hours a month, twice a month, to giving pro-bono services for physical therapy once established as a clinician. I plan to offer not only donations but services for people in the community. I hope to engage my friends and family members in donating not only their time but teaching them the ways of proper giving that aligns with their values to make a significant impact. I pledge to give my time and money to make a contribution to whatever community I find myself in.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact [email protected]
Step 1
Have a healthy and vigorous dialogue in your class on the general idea of having a personal Giving Goal as a college student.
Step 2
Set a Giving Goal concerning your future giving plans.
Step 3
Share a brief statement of your Giving Goals on The Philanthropy Lab’s portal as a way to inspire others to do the same. You may post anonymously to the public if you wish.
Step 4
Share your permanent email address and phone number with The Philanthropy Lab, for the sole purpose of the reminder mechanism, so we can remind you of your goal in 5 year increments for 20 years into the future.

I pledge to give 5% of my post-tax income to different philanthropic groups that align with my personal values. To maximize this monetary donation I plan on putting this sect of my income into a separate banking or investment account. In addition, I plan on donating 5% of my time (approximately 440 hours/year) to philanthropic ventures. This would entail around 9 hours a week that could come in the form of coaching, tutoring, assisting with a religious organization, or working with a specific volunteer group. As I grow in my time, income, and influence I plan on increasing my giving in turn to increase the benefit I may have on others. In doing this I hope to improve the well being of specific populations and generate a culture of giving in my family and peer groups.

I pledge to give 10% of my salary to various non-profits and/or my church. I also pledge to volunteer at a non-profit at least one time per month. I plan to be active in my community and stay informed on its needs. I want to give in the most beneficial and impactful way-I will work on gaining personal relationships with local organizations I’m passionate about. If monetary donation is infeasible, I pledge to give my time and talent.

I pledge to give 10% of my annual income to local nonprofits that I am passionate about each year. As I become more financially stable, I plan to increase this amount and begin also giving funds to international organizations. I hope to collaborate with peers to create a giving circle, and be diligent in ensuring that the organizations we support are effectively using the funds. In addition to the financial portion, I plan to obtain a law degree, and use this to advocate for others and provide legal representation to those who are not able to afford it.

I pledge to continue my philanthropic efforts beyond this class, specifically by: Giving an appropriate percentage of my post-tax income between 10-15% to nonprofits that align with my core values and that I have spent at least one hour researching. Serving organizations and nonprofits by contributing my time and talents toward them at least six times annually. (Ideally at least once a month when my schedule allows). Lastly, through actively talking about and promoting different nonprofits with my family, colleagues, and peers in order to raise awareness and share my love for philanthropy with others.

I plan to extend my philanthropic activities beyond this class in several meaningful ways. First, I aim to donate a portion of my post-tax income, ranging from 3% to 10% to nonprofits that not only align with my core values but are also ones I have thoroughly researched for at least an hour. Additionally, I look forward to contributing to service acts carried out or supported by organizations that I find agreeable. Volunteering a few hours each year at multiple organizations is another avenue through which I intend to offer my support. Beyond direct participation, I plan to engage in researching and promoting philanthropic organizations that make a significant impact. Whenever possible, I will attend events to demonstrate my support and commitment to their causes, further solidifying my dedication to philanthropy.
