I pledge to support mental health awareness and care. I will do this by being kind to others, helping out whenever is needed, supporting organizations that provide mental health resources, and learning how to better take care of my own mental well-being. I want to help create a world where everyone feels supported and understood.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact [email protected]
Step 1
Have a healthy and vigorous dialogue in your class on the general idea of having a personal Giving Goal as a college student.
Step 2
Set a Giving Goal concerning your future giving plans.
Step 3
Share a brief statement of your Giving Goals on The Philanthropy Lab’s portal as a way to inspire others to do the same. You may post anonymously to the public if you wish.
Step 4
Share your permanent email address and phone number with The Philanthropy Lab, for the sole purpose of the reminder mechanism, so we can remind you of your goal in 5 year increments for 20 years into the future.

I want to give at least a few hours a month to volunteering in the future. I will target 3-5 per month two years after graduation.

I plan to give 15% of my income to help animals in need, specifically to the ASPCA. I am very passionate about helping animals, and also plan to volunteer my time at shelters. Furthermore, in my life, I plan to rescue or foster at least two dogs from a shelter.

I Hope to give away 10%-20% of my income every year to various charites across my lifetime. This is to help causes that help people that are less fortunate. I hope that this money can help with supplies, and just helping people in rough situations. Some of the causes I would like to donate to is pet shelters, red cross, other causes around the world like in Africa to help build more water wells out there.

At the very least, I will volunteer 2 hours a week. Ideally, I would like to make enough money to make a sizeable donation to non-profits. Remember the time commitment from Slice of Life!

My goal is to have the money donated by our class make the largest possible impact for the philanthropy chosen. In order to do this, we need to make sure the class is on the same page about how to make the largest impact. For me personally, this means choosing the philanthropy that can create change at the root of the problem they are attempting to change. Furthermore, this means choosing a philanthropy whose method of change has scientific backing and proven results. Ideally, the philanthropy can have both immediate and long term impacts that create a better Nashville. Therefore, the exact cause is less important to me, rather, I hope to give to the cause with the most proven track record that creates impact and attacks the root issue behind their cause.
