I choose to give back to others who are in need. I hope to give back 10% of the earnings I make to the Alzheimer’s Association to benefit and help to find a cure for those with dementia. My Grandmother suffers from this terrible diagnosis and I have seen the struggles not only for her but for our family dynamic as a whole. If I can personally donate my time and money to this organization, hopefully, there can soon be a cure for this life-altering disease.
What is a Giving Goal?
Often, the idealism of youth is lost as one achieves success and acquires material possessions later in life. What was originally considered to be “enough” or even “beyond my wildest dreams” can become just another milestone on one’s quest…
Capturing your current vision of how you wish to give of yourself and your resources in the future could help you plan to give more meaningfully. Revisiting this vision in ten or twenty years could provide a reminder of the ideals of your youth that may shape or re-shape your future actions.
If you have already posted your Giving Goal and would like to update your email for future reminders, please contact [email protected]

I wish to be able to have a good percentage of my income given per year to philanthropic causes I care about. This looks somewhere around 2-4% I will conduct due diligence for every single donation I make, which involves checking factors such as CharityNavigator’s star ratings or the financial health and charity efficiency of the organization. I’m hoping that I can be an active giver and someone who truly contributes to helping others.

My giving goal is to engage with the nonprofit sector in the form of working for, volunteering my time, and financial donations when I am financially stable.

I plan on engaging in philanthropy for the rest of my life, but I plan to do so in ways that differ from the simple donation of money. Of course it all depends on the time that you can spend on these activities, and since I assume I have more time now than I will when I am working, I want to focus on giving time, and as I familiarize myself with philanthropic endeavors around me I will use monetary resources to support the previous efforts I worked on. In my experience, just sending money often feels distant- like a spectator’s role in a process that begs for involvement. Instead, I want to offer my time, ability to connect, and expertise, believing these commitments create a unique kind of impact that money alone can’t achieve. Like Madam CJ Walker stated, “although money was important, it was not the full extent. A broader notion of philanthropy as voluntary action for the public good” (Walker, 3) was the perspective she took in her giving, and is the perspective I also want to take on. This desire might be seen as somewhat self-centered, because I gain from it by making me feel good to be involved directly, but that’s precisely why I advocate for non-monetary philanthropy: it’s a way to be embedded in the communities I care about and help shape outcomes in a hands-on way. Looking to the future, I understand my relationship to my community as one of mutual support. I want to be someone who is consistently there, contributing to change that’s visible and measurable – not just from a distance but through the conversations, experiences, and shared progress that come with time spent side by side with others. As I enter adulthood, I envision philanthropy as a guiding part of my life, not through large sums but through steady, persistent involvement that allows me to witness growth and setbacks alike. By engaging personally and consistently, I hope to leave a lasting impact that goes beyond monetary aid, inspiring others around me to see giving as something you live out and not just something you provide.

I pledge to continue eating only vegetarian while moving towards more conscious choices in the fully-vegan sector. I pledge to start donating a certain % of my income once I top a $200,000 yearly salary to the causes closest to my heart.
