No Ficcion

No-Ficción is a non-profit journalistic projects producer founded in Guatemala in September 2017, formed by a group of journalists interested in telling Mesoamerica through narrative, investigation and data journalism. We are a journalistic production company that is characterized by the constant search for stories that can structurally explain various social phenomena in the region. Non-Fiction arises in a territory full of inequalities (economic, gender, ethnic), injustices and human realities that take place between various acts of resistance. To enhance the impact of our content, we also make alliances with local, regional and international media. We are a civil society duly registered with the Guatemalan authorities.

The members of No-Ficción have extensive experience in the media in Guatemala. In addition, some of the journalistic works of several founding members have obtained various national and international recognitions. It was formed in 2017 by five journalists with experience in the Guatemalan media: Bill Barreto, Oswaldo Hernández, Carolina Gamazo, Alejandro Pérez and Sandra Sebastián.

Objective 1: This project seeks to offer information that is relevant on a national and international level, about the effects of climate change on the Guatemalan population. For this purpose, we will use different contemporary journalistic formats to compile a series stories about how life in different areas in the country has been affected by climate change in recent years. For this, No Ficción will make use of the various tools that digital journalism offers, such as the capacity for innovation in multimedia formats and the adaptability of content for social networking platforms. These, coupled with rigorous, narrative, and in-depth journalism, seek to engage the public in an informative way and expose a situation that will lead the public to ask more questions.

Objective 2: Consolidate No Ficción as an independent digital news media outlet in Guatemala. In addition, strengthening its team of journalists to increase No Ficción’s capacity of engagement and the quality of the information we produce, as well as strengthen our dissemination strategies. This will allow us to reach a greater number of citizens as a democratic way to combat disinformation and to leave a record of the risks to democracy Guatemala is facing.
